Samoa celebrates Waste Awareness Day

2:15 pm on 18 February 2005

Samoa's cabinet has approved the commemoration of the National Waste Awareness Day at the Tafaigata Dump site tomorrow.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been working towards raising public awareness of the proper waste disposal and recycling methods that need to be enforced.

This year's programme will introduce a new method of decreasing the amount of waste on land.

This is the shipment of hazardous wastes such as aluminium, car batteries and the like, to developed countries to be destroyed.

The theme for this year's National Waste Awareness Day is "Developing Goods from Waste".
