Alleged case of misuse of funds at American Samoa Community College

9:40 am on 24 February 2005

The Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Bureau of the Department of Public Safety has been asked to investigate a case of alleged misuse of funds by an employee of the American Samoa Community College.

College sources say that a female employee of the institution's Business Office, is suspected of embezzling about US$70,000.

She was reportedly given a termination letter last week.

The request for an investigation was apparently made directly by the college to the police.

The acting president of the community college, Doctor Daniel Aga, says he can't give any comments on the case because an investigation is under way.

The assistant Attorney General Frederick O'Brien says their office isn't aware of such an investigation.
