The chief associate justice in American Samoa, Logoai Siaki and the associate judge Sagapolutele Malaeola, have completed with high distinction a course for judges held in the Federated States of Micronesia.
During the past two years the two local judges have participated in the legal institute by attending periodic one-week-long classes in various states of Micronesia.
They completed classes in constitutional law, civil procedure, criminal procedure, evidence, contracts and torts.
Chief justice Michael Kruse has been informed that judges Logoai and Sagapolutele were among four judges in a class of 15 who have successfully completed the programme with high distinction.
Organized through the Pacific Judicial Conference, the program is aimed at providing judges who have not been trained in law a better understanding of legal issues presented in court.
The conference comprises American Samoa, Guam, Northern Marianas, FSM, Marshall islands and Palau.
Law professors and retired judges from the national Judicial College in Reno, Nevada teach the courses.
