Police in Solomon Islands have retrieved important artefacts that had been stolen from the National Museum.

Police officers from the city station in the capital, Honiara, say the artefacts are priceless historical pieces.

An expatriate man has been questioned in relation to the theft and police believe he was looking to buy the artefacts.

Police say investigations into the theft are ongoing and no-one has yet been charged.

Meanwhile, police statistics in the capital have revealed a increase in break-ins.
