Cyclone Percy leaves Tokelau and heads for American Samoa

9:40 am on 27 February 2005

Cyclone Percy is heading towards American Samoa, for the second time in a week.

The New Zealand met office says Cyclone Percy is moving away from the Tokelau group, and will batter Swains Island, the northernmost outer island of American Samoa.

New Zealand Forecaster, Steve Ready, says on its current track, it looks like Cyclone Ready will then move towards the Manu'a Islands tomorrow, and will also affect the southwest of the Northern Cook Islands.

The cyclone has maximum winds of 2-hundred and 22 kilometres per hour at its centre, with sea swells of up to 15 meters.
