No casualties in American Samoa aircraft incident

11:50 am on 3 March 2005

An Inter Island Air, Britten Norman Islander aircraft lost its brakes while landing at Fitiuta Airport in American Samoa's Manu'a Islands late yesterday afternoon.

Passengers and people on the ground credited the chief pilot Vili Lomaloma with preventing what could have been a major accident.

Inter Island Air's agent on Ta'u, says when the brakes malfunctioned, the pilot turned the aircraft into a mound on the east side of the runway bringing the aircraft to a stop.

All 7 passengers on board escaped unharmed

The aircraft, which was not damaged in the accident, is now parked at the airport awaiting a mechanic from Tutuila to repair the faulty brakes.
