Boat due at Cooks atoll of Palmerston after Cyclone Percy

2:48 pm on 9 March 2005

A boat is expected to arrive shortly in the Cook Islands atoll of Palmerston which was hit by cyclone Percy last week.

Chief Inspector Teroi John Tini says some sea flooding was reported so presumably there are no crops and emergency supplies will be needed.

But, he says they've since lost communication with the 40 people on Palmerston so a boat with a telecom technician is headed for the atoll.

Chief Inspector Tini says the Miss Mataroa is on its way after dropping off supplies destined for Pukapuka and Nassau.

"They have completed unloading supplies in Pukapuka, and their next destination will be Palmerston. If she left yesterday, she should be there either late today or early tomorrow morning."
