A police commander in American Samoa has been charged in connection with the death of an elderly man in a road traffic incident.
Lanu Mapu, who was off duty at the time of the incident, was yesterday charged with vehicular homicide.
Mapu also faces charges of careless driving and failing to exercise due care.
A court heard Mapu was driving a truck that hit Maui'a Tupolo when he was crossing the street in Utulei.
An autopsy performed on Maui'a revealed that he died of a respiratory system failure caused from the truck's impact.
