The Vanuatu foreign affairs minister, Sato Kilman, has met the president of New Caledonia, Marie-Noelle Themereau, in Noumea.
The neighbours expressed their will to strengthen their co-operation, and underlined the role of France in the region.
Mr Kilman told a joint press conference that France to become dynamic in its contribution to the economic development of the region.
France signed a co-operation treaty with Vanuatu which was ratified in 2002.
The treaty deals with education, health, youth, sports and also cultural exchanges.
Mr Kilman is preparing the outlines of a new co-operation treaty for the next two years.
