A former Solomon Islands deputy police commissioner, Wilfred Akao, is go to trial today on charges of abduction, assault and occasioning bodily harm.
The charges relate to the alleged rape of a woman near the Honiara yacht club several years ago.
A former director of civil aviation in Solomon Islands, Michael Anita, has been charged with raping the woman, and will stand trial with Akao.
Both men were arrested more than a year ago by a team of investigators attached to the Regional Assistance Mission.
The trial was to start last Wednesday but was put back until today at the request of the defence.
