Trial of former Solomons top policeman resumes

7:33 am on 15 March 2005

A former Solomon Islands assistant police commissioner, Wilfred Akao, and a former Civil Aviation Director, Michael Anita, have been warned by the High Court that they are not to approach the complainant in the rape case both are facing.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the various charges they are facing.

Anita is facing three counts of rape and a count of common assault, while Akao has been charged with two counts of abduction, and two counts of assault causing bodily harm.

The charges relate to an incident in December 1996 at the Point Cruz Yacht Club in Honiara.

They will be cross-examined by defence when the trial resumes this morning.
