Another Pacific leader is in Beijing to hold talks with Chinese authorities.

Nauru's president, Ludwig Scotty is in China this week and has met with the Chinese vice foreign minister Yang Jiechi.

The Pacnews agency says the discussion has focussed on bilateral ties, and economic and technological cooperation.

Mr Yang has lauded efforts made by the Nauruan Government to promote friendship between the two countries and expressed appreciation for its backing of the one China policy.

Nauru, until 2002, had been an ally of Taiwan.

President Scotty told Mr Yang that Nauru places great importance on expanding economic and trade cooperation with China.

Last week, Vanuatu's prime minister, Ham Lini was in Beijing for similar discussions.
