A Papua New Guinean appointed to a top job in Europe says he hopes his appointment will benefit understanding in PNG about the African Caribbean and Pacific Secretariat.
Political scientist, Dr Henry Okole, leaves today to take up the job of Chief of Cabinet to the African Caribbean and the Pacific Secretariat.
The ACP consists of 79 member countries which, with the European Union, promote sustainable development, poverty reduction, peace and stability in a free and democractic society.
Dr Okole expects to work closely in the role with the ACP Secretary-General, Sir John Kaputin, also of PNG.
Dr Okole says there'll be challenges in the job, but he hopes PNG and the rest of the Pacific gains worthwhile information from him taking on the job.
"...and certainly it is my hope, and certainly the administration of Sir John Kaputin over the next five years, that the Pacific region in particular gets more inside, into the role of the ACP and how they could benefit from this particular organisation."
