The Fiji Labour minister has visited his counterpart in Kuwait where hundreds of Fiji nationals are working for the security firms.

Fiji Live reports Kenneth Zinck spoke to Faizal Mohammed Al-Hajji Bukhandour.

Mr Zinck reportedly said he was interested in establishing a formal diplomatic relationship with the Kuwait government.

Mr Zinck's trip has come under fire from political opponents, who said he was never invited to Kuwait by either the government or the security companies there.

The Fiji Election Commission ruled no official could accompany Mr Zinck after concerns the trip was intended to register would-be voters ahead of a general election.
