Eminent persons to review Regional Mission to Solomons

8:16 pm on 29 March 2005

Papua New Guinea has been asked to head an Eminent Persons' Group to review the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

The request was made to the Prime Minister, Sir Michael Somare, when he met with three other Pacific leaders in New Zealand last week.

Solomon Islands had asked for RAMSI's operations to be reviewed.

Radio reports in PNG say the Pacific Islands Forum secretary general, Greg Urwin, is coordinating the formation of the Eminent Persons' Group.
