French Polynesian opposition distances itself from spy report

The French Polynesian opposition has distanced itself from a report that a spy cell within the GIP served its former president, Gaston Flosse.

A leaked probe into the disappearance of a journalist found that an intelligence unit followed several politicians and lawyers.

This has prompted the president, Oscar Temaru, to lodge a complaint against unknown persons.

But the secretary general of the Tahoeraa, Jean-Christophe Bouissou, says the leaked report has not been endorsed by the judiciary and he says espionage is not party policy.

"In the Tahoeraa we do not allow this kind of process, hiring people to try to spy or to bring intelligence into some kind of administration services."
