PNG community leaders to march again against Australia's treatment of PNG PM

3:33 pm on 5 April 2005

Another march planned in the Papua New Guinea capital to protest the Australian treatment of the Prime minister will take place tomorrow.

The march is calling for an apology over Sir Michael Somare's treatment by Australian airport authorities last month, when he was asked to remove his shoes in a security check.

Community leaders from outside Port Moresby are organising the latest march that will lead to the Australian High Commission.

A spokesman for Australian Foreign Affairs and Trade said government officials are in continuing dialogue with the PNG government on the issue.

Australia's Foreign Minister, Alexander Downer, has said an apology will not be offered over the incident.
