Australia is providing more funding in the regional fight against disease.

The Australian Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade, Bruce Billson, says Australia will contribute up to 10 million US dollars to combat HIV/Aids, maternal and child mortality, TB, and malaria in the Asia Pacific region.

He says if current trends continue, there could be 11 million people in the Asia Pacific with HIV/AIDS in five years.

Mr Billson says the money will also be used to combat lymphatic filariasis, a parasitic disease caused by thread-like worms.
