Indonesian police have killed an alleged separatist rebel and arrested eight others in a raid on a village in Papua province.
The head of the Puncak Jaya district police, Hans Somnaikubun, told the state Antara news agency that the eight rebels were captured in a pre-dawn raid on a house in the town of Mulia.
The report says that three others escaped, one of whom was shot and killed.
The raid followed a tip-off on the whereabouts of a small splinter group of the Free Papua Organisation which police claim had been planning an attack on the town's small airport.
No firearms were found among those arrested.
