French Polynesia's latest tourism statistics show Tahiti recorded its highest number of tourist arrivals since 2001, during the first two months of this year.

Tahiti welcomed more than 30,000 tourists to its shores, including a 10 per cent rise in stopover visitors at 6,566.

The Tahitipresse reports the statistics showed a rise in the number of tourists from Japan, and some parts of Europe, but fewer from the United States, Canada and Germany.
