Indonesia's Aceh Province likes autonomous Bougainville model

Indonesian separatists in Aceh have singled out the autonomous government in the PNG province of Bougainville as a model for self-government.

The Post Courier newspaper reports Aceh rebels told Indonesian Government representatives during peace talks in Finland that the Bougainville model of autonomous government is something they aspire to.

The tsunami last year brought the Indonesian government and the Free Aceh Movement back to the negotiating table.

Free Aceh Movement spokesman Bakhtiar Abdullah said last week that they needed self-government, and won't accept the 'special autonomy' proposed by Jakarta.
