Flood warning issued for Fiji

8:29 pm on 19 April 2005

The Fiji weather office has issued a flood warning for low lying areas throughout the country, following heavy rain, and it is promising more to come.

A forecaster at Fiji's met office says there has been heavy rain in parts of the northern, eastern and western divisions, but it was particularly intense around Rakiraki on Viti Levu's north coast.

The office recorded more than 100mm of rain in the 12 hours to midday Tuesday in various parts of the country.

The forecaster warns that if a trough over Vanuatu develops overnight there will be more flooding.
