Vanuatu police drinking kava on duty to face discipline in attempts to clean up force

Police officers caught consuming kava on duty face disciplinary charges as part of the new police service commission's mission to clean up the force.

In its first meeting with the minister for internal affairs, the commission revealed its wide-ranging plans, which include the appointment of a permanent secretary, fixed four-year terms and a revision of the officer promotion procedure.

Port Vila Presse reports that the minister, George Wells, urged the commission to prioritise issues and deal with them urgently, as he said order and discipline were continuing to deteriorate within the force
