The American Samoa government owned KVZK-TV has launched its second channel today.

The new Channel 5 provides a digital broadcast, and its launch coincided with the territory's Flag Day celebrations.

Governor Togiola Tulafono said the new channel will greatly improve the clarity and reception for TV viewers in Manu'a.

The state television had been broadcasting only on Channel 2 for many years, until now.

Channel 5 has been off the air since December 1991, when its transmitter was severely damaged by Hurricane Val.
