The father of the Vanuatu singing star, Vanessa Quai, has appeared in court in Australia after telling officials at Brisbane Airport that he had a bomb in his luggage.

Nigel Anthony Quai is the second ni-Vanuatu to be arrested at the airport this month, after the discovery of cartridges in the luggage of an Air Vanuatu flight attendant, Johnny Garae.

Quai was arrested as he was boarding a flight to Vanuatu on Tuesday night, and he was charged with making a threat to aviation security.

The news agency Port Vila Presse reports prosecutors told the Brisbane Magistrates Court that Quai had commented 'there's a bomb in there'.

Magistrate John Smith granted Quai bail on the condition he surrenders his passport.

Quai is due to appear in court again tomorrow.
