Floodwaters recede in Fiji

5:05 pm on 21 April 2005

Floodwaters have receded around Fiji after heavy rain caused widespread disruption and claimed two lives.

The Director of the National Disaster Management Office Joeli Rokovada reports that most of the country's roads and beaches are now open to all traffic and the emergency centres have now closed.

Mr Rokovada says survey teams are still trying to ascertain the extent of the damage and he is waiting for an assessment report.

The flooding had left Nadi the worst affected but Mr Rokovada says there are very few roads that are still affected.

He says the forecast for the next few days is for good weather.
