Third entrant for Fiji mobile phone market

One of the fiercest critics of exorbitantly high telecommunications charges in Fiji has formed his own company to provide mobile telephone services at lower prices.

The Fiji Times reports that businessman Mahendra Motibhai Patel has set up Wireless Pacific Limited in partnership with Colonial Fiji Life Limited and an American company, Alliance Communications.

Wireless Pacific has applied to operate mobile phone services and says it can begin services within three months of being given a licence.

Mr Patel says they would target rural areas, their service would be on a par with the world and their charges would be competitive.
