ANZAC service draws crowd in PNG capital

1:30 pm on 25 April 2005

Many foreigners living in the Papua New Guinea capital, Port Moresby, have turned out for today's Anzac Day dawn service at the Bomana War Cemetery outside the capital.

About 2,500 people attended the ceremony at which five Australian veterans of the Second World War campaigns in PNG were guests of honour.

The High Commissioners from Australia and New Zealand both paid tribute to those who fought and lost their lives during the war.

They also praised the efforts of Papua New Guineans who came to the aid of sick and wounded Allied soldiers.
