The Goro Nickel company has delayed the opening of a co-ordination centre in the south of New Caledonia, linked to the region's biggest mining project.
The centre in Yate was to be opened this week, but it's been deferred until May 11th.
The company has given no reason for the changed plans.
The announcement comes as the USOENC union is expressing disquiet over the possible impact of the huge nickel projects in the territory.
It says their development will mean a revolution in the life of New Caledonians which can offer an opportunity but also turn into a catastrophe for the next decade or two.
