New Caledonia's ruling Future Together Party has held two-days of public discussions to debate key challenges facing the territory.
The party's president, Harold Martin, says New Caledonia must to prepare itself for a common destiny in line with the 1998 Noumea accord between the pro- and anti-independence camps.
Mr Martin has highlighted school failures as the biggest problems along with challenges to protect the environment coinciding with the launch of two major nickel projects.
The Future Together Party, which is dominated by former members of the Rassemblement-UMP, came to power a year ago after ending that party's 25-year grip on power.
