Niue Finance minister stays quiet over election loss

3:31 pm on 2 May 2005

The Niue Finance Minister has declined to comment on whether he will seek a recount after losing his common roll seat by two votes in the weekends elections.

Toke Talagi was expected to call for a recount along with two village candidates who lost by one vote.

However Mr Talagi says he will not make any statements about the election.

In other significant results the former high commissioner to New Zealand, Hima Takelesi, won a place in the assembly and veteran poltician Robert Rex Jnr was ousted by Organ Viliko.
