Papua New Guinea authorities are about to repatriate four Kiribati nationals who have been picked up at sea.

The newspaper, The National, reports the fishermen were picked up by two foreign fishing vessels at different locations and dates after they drifted in the open seas for nearly two months.

Reports say two of the men were picked up off New Ireland after their motorized canoe developed engine problems, leaving them adrift.

The two, who have been identified as Reuben Baiki and Atabu Baia, are now in Rabaul awaiting arrangements to be sent home.
