The Fiji coup front man, George Speight, is reported to have been visiting his brother, lands minister Samisoni Tikonisau, in his Government Buildings office in Suva.

The Fiji Times reports Speight appeared in the Suva High Court yesterday in cases related to the compensation claims filed by the prime minister deposed in the coup, Mahendra Chaudhry, and members of his ousted government.

The newspaper says afterwards wardens escorted Speight, who is serving a life sentence on Nukulau Island, to see his brother in the lands minister's office.

A Lands Department source who confirmed the visit said the practice is becoming regular.

The commissioner of prisons, Aisea Taoka, is quoted as saying Speight is a human being and has his needs.
