Two people are in police custody in Fiji for questioning over the brutal murder of a migrant Chinese farmer on the weekend.

Three armed and masked men are reported to have robbed and hacked the 57 year old farmer to death and then attacked his wife when she came to his aid.

It was believed to be the fifth attack on the same family, who live ten kilometres north of Suva, in less than two months.

Police say a large investigating team has been assigned to the crime and they are currently searching for a third person.

The police commissioner has called for a report into the allegations that the family suffered ongoing attacks and little was done about it.
