Official at election count in PNG's Bougainville reports fresh technical difficulties

Counting in the elections of Papua New Guinea's province of Bougainville could continue for another two days.

Elections are being held to choose a president and assembly of Bougainville's first autonomous government.

Results won't be confirmed for a month to allow for a 30-day appeal period.

Ballot counting is by hand.

The lawyer, Ray William, who is there to provide legal advice, says technical difficulties have slowed down the process.

"We have some more counting to do out in the other counting centres. We are having some problems with our fax machine here and we are unable to recieve the appropriate data compiled here. So from our corner we can normally act on what we have that is coming in from the counting area."
