The Federated States of Micronesia has appointed its first woman attorney general.

Marstella Jack has already been an assistant attorney general for the FSM Department of Justice and worked as an assistant attorney general for the government of Pohnpei state.

Ms Jack's appointment to Cabinet has this week been approved by Congress.

Another nominee approved was Epel Ilon, who will direct the newly-established Office of Compact Management, whose task is to oversee the treaty between the FSM and the United States.
