Norfolk Island given cash to manage green waste

Norfolk Island has been granted funds to introduce a green waste management system.

The news agency, Australian Associated Press, reports Australia's National Heritage Trust has approved about US$500,000 in funds for the system, which will include the purchase of a tub grinder - a giant mulcher which will turn green organic waste into compost.

Norfolk's Environment Minister, Stephanie Jack, says green waste won't need to be burnt, and the quantity of builders' waste, that currently burnt and the ash dumped at sea, will be minimised.
