Reports from Indonesia say at least 33 children under the age of five in Papua province have been officially diagnosed with HIV.
The Jakarta Post newspaper quotes the chairman of the provincial health office, Tigor Silaban, as saying that the children were thought to have acquired the virus from their mothers.
Mr Tigor says 13 of the 33 children had already been put on a course of anti-retroviral treatment.
Mr Tigor says his office has strongly encouraged all pregnant mothers to get tested for HIV so that those found to be carriers can receive treatment.
Most of Indonesia's Aids patients are found in Papua.
