Authorities in Solomon Islands are being warned that people in the far eastern province of Temotu face more severe food shortages next month.

A combined food security assessment team from the National Disaster Management Office and World Vision in Honiara is forecasting shortages between July and October.

The Solomon Islands Broadcasting Corporation reports the group had just returned from the Reef islands where they assessed food security after recent crop failures.

In its briefing to provincial assembly members of Temotu, the group said it hadn't been able to confirm any deaths that may relate to the problem.
