Reports from Australia say a doctor is urging the immigration authorities not to return an Iraqi asylum seeker to Nauru because of her back injury.

The newspaper, The Age, reports that Houda al-Massaudi has been given treatment in Melbourne since March but is to be returned to the Australian-run detention centre in Nauru where she has been for nearly four years.

Her doctor says she appears not have received adequate treatment on Nauru and is in medical care in Australia for the second time.

The woman's and her husband's applications for asylum have been rejected but they say they are at risk of persecution if they return to Iraq.
