Tokelau is to set up a cervical screening programme for women.
The clinical leader of New Zealand's national cervical screening programme, Dr Hazel Lewis says a pilot programme based on the New Zeakland model will begin on Atafu next month
"New Zealand laboratories will be assisting the women in reading their smears, and Tokelau has an arrangement with District Health Boards in New Zealand to carry out some of the secondary services that will be needed as aprt of the programme."
Dr Lewis says setting up the programme is a huge step forward for the women of Tokelau.
