Micronesian takes up command of US corps in Okinawa

The first Micronesian to head a US military installation has taken up his command of the Marine Corps Air Station Futenma in Okinawa.

Colonel Leo A. Falcam, who is the son of the former FSM President Leo Falcam, has been in the U.S. Marines since 1981.

A trained pilot originally from Pohnpei, he has flown for the Marines for nearly 24 years, including a tour of combat during the first Gulf War in 1990-1991.
