The Labour Ombudsman in the Northern Marianas, Jim Benedetto, has criticised the Department of Labor's performance.
According to a report in the Marianas Variety newspaper, he said they had lax preventive enforcement, a slow adjudication of complaints and prematurely labelled complaints as frivolous.
Mr Benedetto said in a letter to the acting Labor Secretary that prematurely labelling complaints was prejudicial to a proper determination of the facts.
He said it was also counterproductive to a level-headed assessment of the CNMI's public policy toward foreign workers.
