Pope names new bishop for Wallis and Futuna

The Vatican has announced that a French clergyman, Ghislain de Rasilly, will be the new bishop of Wallis and Futuna.

Pope Benedict XVI named the Marist educator who had worked in New Caledonia since 1971.

Monsignor de Rasilly will replace Monsignor Lolesio Fuahea who is retiring.

Wallis and Futuna is the Pacific's territory with the highest percentage of Catholics.
