Papua New Guinea's Community Development Minister says parliamentarians should look at allowing a regulated adult sex industry to combat youth prostitution and the spread of HIV/AIDS,.
Lady Carol Kidu made the comment in response to a question on the growth of brothels behind restaurants.
She says while prostitution is illegal in PNG, the commercial sex industry is a reality and will not go away.
Lady Carol says lawmakers should look at Queensland's legislation which allows for a regulated adult entertainment industry but makes soliciting for sex on the streets illegal.
She says this needs to be considered because PNG now has an HIV/AIDS epidemic.
