The former owner of the Daewoosa Samoa garment factory, Kil Soo Lee, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for enslaving more than 200 Asian workers at the now closed factory in Pago Pago.

Lee, a South Korean national, was also ordered to pay 1.8 million US dollars in restitution.

Lee's attorney has filed a notice to appeal the guilty verdict, saying that Hawai'i lacks jurisdiction.

He said the High Court of American Samoa is the proper venue to hear the charges against his client.
