PNG defence force may lack uniforms for official parade

Papua New Guinea Defence Force soldiers may not be able to get their Kumul-pattern uniforms in time for this year's Independence Day celebrations in September.

This is because the delivery of uniforms, from Australia, is conditional on Papua New Guinea Defence Force complying with the Canberra-funded downsizing programme.

The newspaper, The National, reports that the third phase of the programme was to have been completed by April this year, but implementation is going slowly.

The Kumul-pattern uniforms are the official wear of the PNGDF soldiers for parades and ceremonial purposes
