Reports from New Caledonia say a Congolese man has been arrested on possession of 140 grams of cocaine.

The Nouvelles Caledoniennes newspaper says the 34-year old man was arrested at a Noumea hotel shortly after landing at Tontouta airport.

The paper says he was a resident of Paris and had previously visited New Caledonia as a member of a music group.

The news agency, AFP, says it was the first seizure of hard drugs in the territory in five years.
