Security has been tightened at Fiji's Nausori Airport after two men arrived in a private New Zealand-registered aircraft, abandoned the plane, jumped over the perimeter fence and fled in a waiting car.

The divisional police commander eastern, Emosi Baleinuku, is quoted as saying the men did not follow proper procedures by going through customs and immigration.

Police later found the two men at the offices of the Fiji Hardwood Corporation and took them for questioning at police headquarters where they were searched and their passports impounded.

No charges have yet been laid against the two men whose identities have been withheld.

But they are believed to have come to Fiji on an aerial photography assignment for Fiji Hardwood Limited.
