The Fiji parliament's Justice, Law and Order committee which is hearing public submissions on the Qarase government's Reconciliation and Unity Bill will have to defer its work from tomorrow.
The secretary general to parliament, Mary Chapman, has told Radio Legend that this is because parliament prorogues from tomorrow and all operations of the Lower House must cease.
Ms Chapman says parliament will only resume when President Iloilo summons it to reconvene on August the 1st.
The Speaker of the House, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau, has turned down a request for public hearings to continue in July.
Ms Chapman says due to this delay, the committee will only be able to submit an interim report on public submissions on the Reconciliation and Unity Bill to the Lower House in August.
She says the public will still be able to make written submissions in July but the committee will review them when it resumes sittings in August provided the Lower House approves this.
